His journey into ophthalmology was hands-on from the start. Before beginning his formal training, he worked directly in the OR as a surgical technician, reinforcing his belief that small, precise interventions in eye care can have profound, lasting impacts.

Dr. Cardinale served eight years in active-duty military service, deploying to Iraq as the sole ophthalmology consultant for Operation Inherent Resolve. Later, as Assistant Program Director at Madigan Army Medical Center, he trained future ophthalmologists, advancing surgical methods in high-stakes environments.

His commitment to vision care extends globally. Early in his career, he joined a surgical mission to bring eye care to underserved communities. A decade later, he returned as a lead surgeon, directly restoring sight for those in need.

Originally from New York, Dr. Cardinale made the Pacific Northwest his home through military service. When he’s not in the clinic, he enjoys exploring the great PNW and photography, capturing the same depth and detail that make vision so vital.
